Chansons d'Amour

”Paradoxically though it may seem, it is none the less true that life imitates art far more than art imitates life.”

‘The Decay of Lying’, Oscar Wilde

Embodied in a series of staged photographs, this series places photographic and cinematographic clichés and conventions in a different order to create new images. The studio becomes, by artifice, fake rooms (bedrooms, living rooms, waiting rooms,…) in which one or more models act out a role. Eye contact between the model and the spectator is denied, occasioning a dislocation of rapport. This in turn engenders an intangibility that needs to be imagined by the spectator. Song text engraved in glass, however, can limit the choices available to the observer. Once again, personal interpretation of the text is perhaps the route to appreciation.
